Instructor Development Course Prerequisites
- Dive Leader certification: Divemaster or leadership-level certification with other recognized recreational diver training organizations.
- Minimum age: 18 years old.
- Minimum 60 logged dives.
- Signed and dated PADI Medical Statement within the last 12 months. This can be completed upon arrival in Cozumel.
- Be a certified diver for at least six months.
- EFR Primary & Secondary Care training (or other current, equivalent certification) completed within the last 24 months. Online-only courses are not acceptable.
- Complete a diver rescue skills assessment per the PADI Divemaster course (if not a PADI Divemaster).
- Divers Alert Network (DAN): Divers Insurance. If you don't have divers insurance, click the DAN Banner below, select your Country of Residence and follow the steps.
- Personal equipment: Divers must have a complete set of their own dive gear and a dive computer (a free rental is available). Divers must also have their own Delayed Surface Marker Buoy and reel, whistle, cutting device (preferably a line cutter), and timing device.
PADI Instructor Examination Prerequisites
- All IDC prerequisites listed above
- Minimum 100 logged dives
- Successful completion of the Instructor Development Course or Open Water Scuba Instructor program within the past 12 months
- Emergency First Response Instructor or CPR/First Aid instructor certification issued by another organization
