The PADI Instructional team of Cozumel Dive Academy will patiently guide you through the three steps of your Open Water Course.

The Steps to Earn Your PADI Open Water Certification

Step 1 - Academics

You will complete the academic portion of your PADI Open Water Course using PADI's digital eLearning. Your eLearning will allow you to complete the academic part of your PADI Open Water Course on your own time. Cozumel Dive Academy will send your eLearning course to you when you sign up for your class. You will become familiar with basic diving principles and procedures during this training portion. For example, you'll learn the effects of pressure on your body, how to choose the right equipment, considerations for planning dives, and more. If you are already on Cozumel, you may complete the academic portion with one of our experienced PADI Instructors.

Step Two – Confined Water Dives

During this step, you'll dive into our "swimming pool" on our private beach and complete five confined water dives. You will develop the basic scuba skills necessary to dive safely during these dives. You will learn to set up your diving equipment, control your buoyancy, dive with a buddy, and have several other essential and fun skills. You will also take tour dives around the reefs, where you will practice the skills you have learned and meet our local reef inhabitants in preparation for your open-water dives in Step Three. We also have the option of several large swimming pools to conduct this training in should the weather not cooperate.

Step Three – Open Water Dives

Get excited to experience everything you've learned with the freedom of open water. You will complete four open water dives to complete your PADI Open Water Certification. You will complete two shore dives and two boat dives to complete the Open Water portion of your course. Once you have completed these dives, you will have earned your PADI Open Water certification. The PADI Open Water Diver certification is recognized worldwide, so your diving experiences will be limitless.

Already completed the Academic and Confined Water portion of your course? Complete your Open Water Dives with our Open Water Referal Program.
